Overview

Gian Luca Burci has been Adjunct Professor of International Law at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva since 2012. He is also Director of the Joint LLM in Global Health Law and International Institutions between the Graduate Institute and Georgetown University, and a Senior Fellow in the Global Health Centre of the Graduate Institute. He served in the International Atomic Energy Agency (1988-1989); the Office of the Legal Counsel of the United Nations (1989-1998); and the Legal Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) (1998-2016). He was the Legal Counsel of WHO from 2005 to 2016. A national of Italy, he holds a doctorate in international law from the University of Genoa and has published widely on topics ranging from global health law and governance to the law of international organisations, international immunities and the functions of the Security Council.
