Overview

Matthew Craven is former Dean of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences and Professor of International Law at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. He is a member of Matrix Chambers, Founding Editor of the London Review of International Law and Director of the Centre for the Study of Colonialism, Empire and International Law.

His current research interests lie in the field of international legal history and legal theory, focusing, in particular, on the Cold War. He is author/editor of a number of books including The Decolonisation of International Law (2007), Time, History and International Law (2007), Interrogating the Treaty (2005) and The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1995). Matthew has published articles on a wide range of topics including statehood and self-determination, the law of treaties and human rights.
