Research Support Funds
Research Support Funds are open to academic staff and graduate research students for a range of research-related purposes including costs associated with attendance at conferences, travel in support of research projects, and other expenses directly related to the costs of undertaking research work.
Information for Students
How to Apply
- Read the Guidelines for Students
- Complete the Application form for Students and attach all relevant supporting documentation.
- Applications Due:
Applications may be made at any time but should be submitted at least four weeks before the relevant period of funding (for example, travel or conference attendance).
Applications for retrospective funding will only be approved in exceptional circumstances and an accompanying explanation must be provided. - Submit your application to the Administrative Officer, MLS Office for Research

Additional Competitive Funding - For PhD Students only
PhD students may apply for additional funding which will be awarded on a competitive basis. Students can apply for up to $1,500 over the life of their candidature.
How to Apply
PhD Students should include requests for any remaining RSF funds plus requests for additional funds in the same application.

- Complete the Application form for Students and ensure you indicate that you are applying for Additional Competitive Funds.
- Applications Due:
Applications will then be due on the following dates:
1 March
1 June
1 September
1 December
If the due date falls on a weekend or University holiday, please submit your application by COB on the next business day.
