Graduate Cohort
As a student in the Melbourne JD, you will have the opportunity to be a part of tight-knit cohort made up entirely of graduate students. Our students often tell us that this is one of the highlights of studying the Melbourne JD as you are learning alongside other committed individuals who are all as excited as you are to be taking this journey.
Your fellow students
Small class sizes, a genuine ‘cohort’ experience, where each year’s intake makes their way through the course as one unit, and our students’ commitment to the knowledge and understanding of law, ensures that being a student in the Melbourne JD differs greatly from studying an undergraduate degree at university.
The networking opportunities available to our students within a graduate law degree are exciting, and add even greater value to your study experience. Our students come from a vast range of professional and educational backgrounds, from Melbourne, Australia and around the world. This stimulating environment enables you to learn from each other and develop networks in a range of professional areas from around the world.
Syndicate groups
Another innovation of the Melbourne JD is cohort-based teaching. Students are assigned to small syndicate groups at the beginning of each semester, they work across all their subjects in these groups, learning from each other, building their ability to work in teams. With every student belonging to a syndicate group, they are provided with a strong learning and study support network. Syndicates develop our students’ ability to work in teams, a skill that is highly valued by employers. Syndicates, and the cohort experience, create lasting friendships and encourage the development of a network of contacts that lasts well after graduation.
