    Historical Note: Sir George Pape was educated at All Saints Grammar School and the University of Melbourne. His legal career was interrupted by World War II, during which he served in the R.A.A.F. from 1940 until 1946. He became a QC in 1955 and in 1957 a Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria. He was knighted in 1968.
