Historical Note: William Ardlie was born in 1843 in Victoria. He was articled to George Barber, Warrnambool, and passed his examinations in Melbourne. In 1867, Ardlie formed a partnership with Barber under the name Barber Ardlie. Barber retired in 1878 and the business continued under Ardlie's name until his death on 16 April 1933. William Ardlie's son, E.L. Ardlie continued the practice until May 1958. The firm, still under the name of William Ardlie, was then taken over by Ivan Ardlie, son of E.L. Ardlie, until he ceased to practice as a solicitor in 1962. The firm's clientele was drawn from the Warrnambool-Mortlake-Penshurst district. J.S. Tait & Co. took the firm over in 1962.
