Construction law lecturers share ideas with colleagues in São Paulo

On 13 September 2016, MLS Directors of Studies for Construction Law, Matthew Bell and Wayne Jocic, ran an Academic Forum at the International Construction Law Conference hosted by the Society of Construction Law Brazil in São Paulo.

The half-day Forum brought together construction law teachers from around the world to discuss ways of overcoming challenges in developing construction law teaching programs. Panel members came from Australia (including MLS Professorial Fellow Doug Jones AO), Brazil, Germany, India, Peru, the UK and USA, and the distinguished group of delegates included lawyers and academics from Latin America and beyond who are looking to develop their own programs.

Reflecting the vital importance of construction to people’s lives and nations’ economies around the world, there is overwhelming demand for construction law courses. However, there are very few institutions which offer them. Matthew and Wayne were delighted, therefore, to share their experience based on the nearly two decades our program has been running.

The Forum was a great success: not only were there interesting and stimulating discussions during the morning, Wayne and Matthew have already been asked to assist in organising similar events at forthcoming international construction law conferences.
