Exploring law all over the world

Jordan Osrin relocated from Perth to study at MLS. Since arriving in Melbourne, Jordan has made the most of his JD experience.

JD student Jordan Osrin hit the ground running when he arrived in Melbourne.

In his first year at MLS he got involved in all aspects of uni life, from participating in the Negotiation Competition to the playing in the mixed netball league. He says that getting involved in extra-curricular activities helped him establish a good group of friends at the Law School.

"During my undergraduate studies, I didn’t really know that many people," he says.

"But in just the first week of studying at MLS, I knew way more people. And that just grows over the years."

Jordan now runs the Negotiation Competition for the Law Students’ Society and participates in the Pathfinder program as a student mentor for first-year students.

Over the winter break he travelled to New York and Washington DC for Global Lawyer, a two-week study intensive that exposes Melbourne JD students to the American and international legal landscapes.

“Global Lawyer was an absolutely incredible experience. The program gave us an opportunity to visit renowned institutions and hear from esteemed interlocutors that would otherwise have been impossible.”

“It has both opened my mind to other areas of practice and professional pathways, and clarified my ideas about my future direction.”

Now in his second year of the JD, Jordan feels he that has made a home for himself in Melbourne.

“There are so many things going on here, which is definitely a drawing point. One of the reasons so many people move to Melbourne is because it’s got all the sport and the entertainment. It’s a great city.”

Jordan’s advice to other students who plan to relocate from interstate or overseas is simple: “Find accommodation close to campus.”

“It’s not only easier to get to uni everyday, but when the Law Students’ Society puts on events, it’s a lot easier to come in,” he says.

“It makes the university experience a lot easier.”
