Alan Limbury is a Mediator and Arbitrator, holding Masters degrees in Law from Oxford University and in Dispute Resolution from the University of Technology in Sydney.
Admitted as a barrister in England before emigrating to Australia in 1964, he practised as a litigation lawyer in major Sydney law firms before turning in 1987 to mediation and arbitration, as Managing Director of his own consultancy, Strategic Resolution. He has mediated over 2,000 commercial, retail tenancy, professional negligence and intellectual property disputes and has acted as an arbiter in over 500 domain name disputes. In 2013 he became a founder member of The Dispute Group.
He was described in the 1996/97 edition of Legal Profiles as ‘the leading practitioner’ in ADR in Sydney, by The Times of London in June 2007 as “the leading Australian mediator” and by Who’s Who Legal 2014 and 2015 as “one of the 10 most highly regarded commercial mediators in the world”. In 2016 he was inducted as a Distinguished Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators.
While a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators between 2004 and 2010, Alan qualified as a Fellow in both arbitration and mediation and as a Chartered Arbitrator. He was also Chairman of the CIArb Mediation Sub-Committee and its Practice and Standards Committee and a Member of the Board of Management.
Alan is an Honorary Life Member and former Chairman of the Business Law Section of the Law Council of Australia, a founder and former Chairman of LEADR (now known as Resolution Institute), and a former President of the Licensing Executives Society (Australia).
