James Paterson is admitted to practice law in Victoria, as well as the State of New York, and acts as a consultant with Anzarut & Partners, a corporate law firm based in Melbourne, Australia.
James provides legal advice on capital raising and merger & acquisition matters. He is also an experienced advisor on consumer protection law issues for advertising campaigns covering television, radio, print and digital mediums.
James’ sports law experience includes providing corporate governance and risk management advice to governing bodies and clubs. James has also negotiated sponsorship agreements relating to the Australian Football League and its member clubs, the National Rugby League, as well as sponsorships for a variety of other major sporting events, including Ironman and motor sport competitions.
James is the Chair of the Law Institute of Victoria's Sports Law Committee, and has director experience at state governing body and elite national club environments. He also acts as the honorary solicitor to the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA), the largest amateur ‘Australian rules’ football league in Australia.
James’ views on sports law and governance issues have been published in both Australia and the United States, including papers in the Australia and New Zealand Sports Law Association Journal, the Company and Securities Law Journal and the New York State Bar Association’s Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Journal.
