ACT State Chapter Seminar- Wednesday 2 September 2015

The ACT Chapter of the Australian Labour Law Association held a seminar on the topic 'Busting the Myths and Checking the Facts: A Critical Examination of the China-Australia free trade agreement'. Dr Joanna Howe (University of Adelaide and Consultant with Harmers Workplace Lawyers) presented the seminar.

ACT Chapter Seminar - 13 March 2013

The ACT State Chapter held a seminar on Wednesday 13 March 2013 at the ANU College of Law in Canberra. Professor Margaret Thornton (ANU) addressed the topic "Deconstructing the HRAD Bill: Do with it what you will!" Professor Thornton presented an overview and critique of the controversial exposure draft of the Human Rights Anti-Discrimination Bill, with particular regard to the ramifications for employment. Professor Keith Ewing of Kings College London discussed the landmark ruling in Damir andBaykara v Turkey, unpacking this key labour law decision and speculating as to what it may mean for trade union litigation strategies into the future.

ACT Chapter Seminar - 13 May 2008

The ACT Chapter of the Australian Labour Law Association and the Industrial Relations Society of the ACT held a seminar on Tuesday 13th May 2008 at 5.30pm. Professor Katherine Stone, Professor of Law at the UCLA School of Law presented on 'The Future of Employment Law in the USA'. Professor Stone is a leading expert in labour and employment law in the United States. She was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship Award in 2008 and a Russell Sage Fellowship for 2008-2009 for her work on the changing nature of employment and the regulatory implications. On Wednesday 14 February Professor Tatiana Zykina presented a seminar 'Labour Law and Lawyers in Russia'. Professor Zykina works at two law schools in Arkhangelsk in North Russia.

ACT Chapter Seminar - 10 September 2003

The ACT Chapter, in conjunction with the Centre for Commercial Law, held a forum on 'Executive Pay' at the Australian National University Law Faculty. The main speakers were Senator Ian Campbell, Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer since 2001; Senator Joe Ludwig, Parliamentary Secretary to the Attorney-General; and Dr Michael O'Donnell, Senior Lecturer at the School of Management and Policy, the University of Canberra.

ACT Chapter Seminar - 14 August 2003

The ACT Chapter, in conjunction with the Industrial Relations Society of the ACT Inc, hosted a forum on 'Future Workplace Regulations' at the Australian National University. The forum was opened by Commissioner Barbara Deegan, Australian Industrial Relations Commission. Speakers were Senator Santo Santoro, Government Member, Senate Employment, Workplace Relations and Education, Legislation and References Committees; Dr Craig Emerson MHR, ALP Shadow Minister for Workplace Relations; Senator Andrew Murray, Australian Democrats' Workplace Relations Spokesperson; and Senator Kerry Nettle, Greens' Workplace Relations Spokesperson.

ACT Chapter Seminar - 25 March 2003

The ACT Chapter held its inaugural meeting with Professor Hugh Collins of the London School of Economics speaking on 'The Evolving Direction of European Labour: Social Inclusion, Competitiveness and Citizenship'. The meeting was held at the Australian National University Law Faculty. Copies of Professor Collins' paper can be obtained by contacting ALLA's administrator (law-alla@unimelb.edu.au).
