Iwan Ariawan is a well-known Biostatistician in Indonesia, a senior lecturer at Universitas Indonesia, and one of the leading figures for the handling of Covid-19 in Indonesia. He is one of the people who are responsible for the modelling of Covid-19 in Indonesia and currently still involved with many of the Covid-19 related task forces in Indonesia. Iwan Ariawan is the director of Reconstra Utama Integra, a research, training and consulting company, developed by public health professionals. Reconstra works in the area of human development, with the aims of improving health, nutrition and education that impact community welfare.

In a country that has 265 million population and carries a double burden due to changing pattern of morbidity, mortality and disability, it is essential that there is prompt and effective disease control. Earlier this month, President Jokowi affirmed that Indonesia's national fatality (of detected positive cases) is above the global average. Costly lessons are being learned through how Indonesia works on suppressing this unprecedented pandemic.
