Peter McMullin Centre joins Taskforce for Global Alliance to End Statelessness

Professor Michelle Foster has been appointed to a newly established taskforce to advise on the formation of a Global Alliance To End Statelessness, of which UNHCR will serve as Secretariat.

Launching in 2023, the Global Alliance To End Statelessness will seek to accelerate solutions to statelessness through a collective multi-stakeholder approach, which centres and respects the experience of those who are stateless and formerly stateless.  The Global Alliance will aim to increase collective advocacy efforts, catalyse political commitments and accelerate the implementation of concrete solutions to statelessness. Building on the momentum generated by the #IBelong Campaign to End Statelessness by 2024, the Alliance will further the United Nations' mission, as outlined in the Secretary General’s ‘Our Common Agenda’ report.

There is great potential through the Global Alliance for a collaborative approach to pushing the statelessness agenda at the international level including through bringing high quality academic research from a range of disciplines to bear on legal, normative and policy reforms.
