Room bookings
We are not accepting external bookings. The building is not open to the general public, and is closed on weekends.
External bookings, including University of Melbourne Departments and Faculties need to be approved by our Deputy Dean. External bookings, including University of Melbourne Departments and Facilities will incur a hire rate. No rooms are to be on sold to external parties without prior permission from the Deputy Dean or School Executive Director.
Our venues for hire
Seminar Rooms
Capacity: 30-70
Description: Perfect for workshops and teaching, these flat-floor rooms can be booked outside of class times for meetings, seminars, conferences, etc.
Features: All Melbourne Law School seminar rooms feature AV equipment.
Lecture Theatres
Capacity: 60-84 (Room G08 capacity: 145)
Description: Melbourne Law School lecture theatres feature tiered flooring, and are perfect for teaching and other presentations to your desired group size. They can be booked outside of class times for meetings, seminars, conferences, etc.

Capacity: 350
Description: This is the largest lecture theatre in the Melbourne Law School building. Bookings can be made via the University's Venue Management website.

Description: This space cannot be directly booked due to its location, however it is used for special events and occasions. Please note that as students use the area for studying, there will be traffic in and out of the nearby lecture theatres during normal hours.

Capacity: 100
Description: This space cannot be directly booked due to its location, however it is used for special events and occasions. It is the main building entrance on the western side of the MLS building, with a large stairway leading from this area up to our mezzanine floor. Please note that as students use the area for studying, there will be traffic in and out of the nearby lecture theatres during normal hours.

Description: This space is used for holding simulations of court proceedings. The space features similar layouts to courts, and allows participants to experience the particular processes and proceedings of courts.

Capacity: 25
Description: Melbourne Law Schools boardroom is designed in a traditional boardroom layout, enouraging professional discourse and comfort for extended discussions. The room sits on the top floor of Melbourne Law School and offers wide views over the University of Melbourne campus and its surrounds.
Features: Rooms are equipped with display TVs for presentations, built in powerpoints in to the desks, and a kitchenette for ease of access to refreshments over the day.

Tier 3 – Melbourne Law School Affiliated Bookings
All Melbourne Law School managed rooms are provided free of charge to MLS staff, pending approval from the Deputy Dean or School Executive Director. GM15 is booked via the University's Venue Hire page and will incur a charge from Venue Management.
No rooms are to be on sold to external parties without prior permission from the Deputy Dean or School Executive Director. No bookings are to be made by MLS staff on behalf of other University of Melbourne or external parties.
Additional Costs
Event Support Services
It is required that a dedicated Event Support Officer be present for all externally organised events and for internally organised events that the general public (non-university staff or students) attend. The Event Support Officer will arrive and unlock the venue(s) prior to the booking and set up the room if required. The Event Support Officer will be scheduled for 30 minutes prior to the event to help with setup, and 30 minutes after the event for packing down.
There is a minimum cost of three hours on weekdays that are not public holidays, and four hours on public holidays and weekends.

The rates above are the standard fees and may vary depending on the time and venues being used.
The assigned Event Support Officer will be the point of contact prior to and during the event. The Event Support Officer will remain at the venue during the event and can assist with:
- Receiving deliveries prior to the event
- Bump-in and bump-out, include unlocking and securing the venues
- HVAC and maintenance issues with the venue
- Venue setup/reset
- Organising trestle tables, panels and/or stackable chairs.
All Event Support Officers are First Aid trained and can also assist with emergency evacuations.
Cleaning
Cleaning costs apply for the cleaning of the venue and surrounding foyer and toilet areas (if applicable). When multiple venues/spaces, are being used for the same booking, a “multiple clean” cost will be negotiated before the booking is confirmed. It should be noted that the costs listed are for the provision of a basic clean (minimum call out fee is three hours’ cleaning time). Should the booked area be left in such a state that additional cleaning or specialised cleaning (ie carpet steam cleaning) is required then additional costs will apply.
Minimum charges does not include GST, and may be higher for events after 30 June 2021. If you use more than one room, or use more than one floor, the price may be higher. We will get a quote for you before the event.

All rooms should be left in a clean condition. Melbourne Law School takes no responsibility for items left in the rooms.
Equipment (Subject to availability)
Trestle tables:
Trestle tables can be ordered by the Event Support officer for external organisations. Student groups and University staff can order them through Unimelb Support. A Themis code is required to complete the order.
Audio Visual (AV) Technical Support
All standard lecture theatre and seminar rooms have:
- Data Projector
- Computer
- DVD drive
- Document Camera
- Whiteboard
- Fixed Microphone
- Most lecture spaces will have a wireless lapel microphone.
You may want to bring a laptop with an HDMI adapter and charger. External organisations will not be able to access the internet with the provided computer, so you may need to use your phone as a hotspot or bring a mobile data device top provide access.
If you have AV or computer issues on the day of your event, you can contact Learning space support at (03) 8344 0777 from 7:30am to 7:30pm, Monday to Friday. Limited support is available on weekends from 9am to 5pm.
If you wish to have a technician in attendance, we can put in a request for you, and obtain a quote. Minimum charges would apply, and weekend and holiday rates will be higher.

You will need to complete an Melbourne Law School Event Approval Checklist & Pre Risk Assessment (PDF) and email the completed checklist to law-helpdesk@unimelb.edu.au before your rooms can be confirmed.
