Advocacy

The Melbourne Law Masters Student Association (MLMSA) represents the collective interests of members within the Melbourne Law School. In advocating on behalf of its members the MLMSA is involved with the following:

Student Group Representative Council

The Student Group Representative Council develop links and facilitates contact between law societies and clubs and MLS and to provide advice to the Dean on student related matters. It also provides a forum in which the Dean and Executive can report back on key MLS developments to a range of students.

The role of the Student Group Representative Council is to:

  • Advise the Dean as to issues of concern to students;
  • Advise the Dean as to issues relating to students as requested by the Dean;
  • Coordinate activities of the various groups and MLS;
  • Make recommendations to the Dean for enhancing the student experience at MLS

The President of the MLMSA sits on the Council and represents all students enrolled in a class or program administered by the Melbourne Law Masters Office. The Student Group Representative Council which meets at least three times a year.

Melbourne Law Masters Committee

The Melbourne Laws Masters Committee is comprised of Melbourne Law Masters Office staff, Melbourne Law Masters Directors of Study and Melbourne Law School staff. The Committee meets to discuss issues relating to the operation and execution of the MLM Program.

The President of the MLMSA represents all students enrolled in a class or program administered by the Melbourne Law Masters Office on the Committee. The Melbourne Law Masters Committee meets three times a year.

MLMSA and MLM Monthly Meeting

The MLMSA Executive Committee and the Melbourne Law Masters Office meet once a month to discuss student feedback, upcoming events and MLMSA initiatives.

Election

MLMSA Executive Elections are held in March of each year and are conducted entirely via email. The online election is completely independent from the MLMSA and is administered by the Melbourne Law Masters Office.

The Term of Office of the MLMSA Executive Committee is from 1 April until 31 March of the next year. The Melbourne Law Masters Office calls for MLM students to nominate themselves to be part of the MLMSA Executive in early March followed by a 14 day voting period. Nominees must be available for service a minimum of 4 hours per week during teaching periods.
