CCCS Submission on the Inquiry into the Allegiance to Australia Bill

The CCCS has made a submission to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security regarding the Inquiry into the Australian Citizenship Amendment (Allegiance to Australia) Bill 2015.

The Bill contains measures to specify circumstances in which an Australian dual national is taken to have lost their Australian citizenship.

The Attorney-General, Senator the Hon George Brandis QC, asked the committee to enquire into this Bill, and also to consider whether proposed section 35A of the Bill (the conviction-based cessation) should apply retrospectively with respect to convictions prior to the commencement of the Act.A copy of our submission is available HERE
