The Office for Research is an administrative unit of Melbourne Law School that supports the Associate Dean (Research) and the Faculty Research and Law Library Committee


The Office for Research is responsible for the strategic and operational management of research at the faculty level and provides expertise and support services to staff and graduate researchers across the following five domains:

  1. Research Strategy and Planning
  2. Research Development and Funding
  3. Graduate Research Degree Program
  4. Research Publications and Reporting
  5. Research Ethics

    Madeline is responsible for managing the MLS Research & Industry portfolio including the daily management of the Office for Research and the strategic and operational planning and management of research activities and research development with Melbourne Law School.  The Law Research Service and MLS Research Centres sit within the Research & Industry portfolio.  Madeline has oversight of Research Centre Reviews and the administration of MLS Research Centres.

    Mas coordinates the Law School's pre and post-award research funding.  She provides expertise and support related to:

    • Grants, awards and fellowships for academic staff and graduate researchers
    • Research contracts and budgets
    • General advice on research funding schemes, submission guidelines and application deadlines
    • Statistics and reporting related to Research and Research Training, in particular research funding
    • General research queries

    Angela coordinates and provides expertise and advice on the following:

    • Collection and classification of research publications of both academic staff and Law students
    • Maintenance of publications data on academic staff profiles
    • Promotion of academic papers on SSRN and AustLII
    • Coordination of copyright permissions for academic staff for Open Access papers
    • Designing, compiling and editing the Law School's annual Research Report
    • Maintaining the Research, Graduate Research Degree and Staff Profile sections of the Law School's website

    Angela is also the Committee Secretary to the Law School's Human Ethics Advisory Group (HEAG), manages nominations for the annual Harold Luntz prize and the Chancellor's Prize for Excellence in the PhD thesis.

Research Project Officer

    Stephanie provides administrative support to the Office for Research and the Associate Dean (Research). Responsibilities include:

    • Responding to general enquiries
    • Compiling weekly bulletins for academics and graduate researchers
    • Organising research events hosted by the Office for Research
    • Providing secretariat support to the Law School's Research and Law Library Committee and its Research Finance Sub-Commitee
    • The Law School's RSF, CAF and FSF funding schemes
    • Adhoc projects under the directive from Research & Industry Manager
