Overview
Ali Noroozi has Bachelor degrees in Engineering and Law as well as a Master of Laws degree in Taxation. Having worked as an Engineer initially, for the last 27 years, he has exclusively worked in the tax arena both in Australia and the United Kingdom. He is currently a tax partner at PwC where he focuses on assisting clients with their disputes with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as well as on policy matters.
Ali is well-known for his achievements as the Inspector-General of Taxation (IGT), a position he held for 10 years from 2008 to 2018. As the IGT, he was the CEO of an independent government agency that scrutinizes the actions of the ATO and the Tax Practitioners Board. He became known as an energetic senior statutory appointee who was highly respected by all side of politics, overseeing a complex regulatory environment. During his tenure, the office of the IGT grew four times in size and its role was expanded to that of an ombudsman with respect to tax administration. In this role, Ali played a major role in delivering improvements and reshaping the tax landscape in Australia.
Prior to becoming the IGT, Ali was the Tax Counsel at Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand having already worked at large accounting and law firms in Australia and the United Kingdom.
