Overview

Andrew Stephenson is a Partner of Corrs Chambers Westgarth where he is a member of the Construction Group and also the International Arbitration Group in Melbourne. He is also a member of the firm's Major Projects Group. He has over 30 years experience in contentious and non-contentious matters relating to all types of construction and technology projects. He has been the key adviser for projects in New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the United Kingdom, Iran, Kuwait, Singapore, Thailand, Peoples Republic of China, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Ireland.

In addition to his commercial practice, Andrew has had extensive experience in litigating disputes arising out of construction and technology matters. He has litigated in the Supreme Courts of most Australian States and Territories and has been involved in many domestic arbitrations.

In addition he has been involved in international arbitrations conducted in London, Paris, Vancouver, Singapore and Geneva. He was also the lead partner for the three Anaconda arbitrations. The first was heard in London. The other two were conducted in Melbourne and were rated by the American Lawyer as within the top 10 arbitrations in the world for 2002 and 2003.

He is particularly interested in the application of international arbitration practice to domestic arbitrations.

He is a senior fellow of the University of Melbourne and the Australian Correspondent to the International Construction Law Review, published in London.
