Overview

Maartje De Visser is a Professor of Law at the Yong Pung How School of Law and College of Integrative Studies, Singapore Management University. She is the university coordinator for Ethics and Social/Corporate Responsibility and the joint programme chair for the Individualised (Second) Major degree, and was the Associate Dean for Postgraduate Education from 2017 to 2020. Maartje holds an LLB from Maastricht University (cum laude), completed the MJur at Oxford (with distinction) and took her PhD at Tilburg University (cum laude). Her research is centered around the theme of constitutional engagement by courts and other State actors. She also has an abiding interest in the local application of global constitutional norms and comparative methodology. Maartje has published widely on these topics, with her work appearing in leading peer-reviewed journals including the International Journal of Constitutional Law, Global Constitutionalism, the American Journal of Comparative Law, and the Asian Journal of Law and Society. She has co-edited six books and contributed chapters to more than 30 edited volumes. Maartje is the recipient of five Lee Kong Chian Fellowships for research excellence, and a member of the editorial board of the Hart Studies in Constitutional Theory Series as well as of the European Yearbook of Constitutional Law. She is the founding co-chair of the Singapore Chapter of ICON-S and a member of the ICON-S Council.
