Overview

Mark is the Principal of Morris and Associates which is a tax consulting firm advising a diverse range of public companies, private family groups and high wealth individuals on a wide array of complex tax matters.

In particular, Mark consults on a broad range of areas impacting small to medium sized entities including the taxation of trusts and Division 7A, business restructures, CGT planning strategies including optimising the small business CGT concessions, succession planning and deceased estates and salary packaging.

Mark is also the Director of TaxKnowHow which provides customised tax training solutions for tax professionals especially generalist practitioners consulting to privately owned groups.

He has almost 40 years’ experience in the tax profession having previously held senior roles in professional services firms, commerce and academia.

He also gained extensive experience in advocacy being the former Senior Tax Counsel at CPA Australia for over 8 years where he provided direct input into the development of tax legislation and ATO rulings covering a broad spectrum of taxes.

He has degrees in both Law and Commerce (Majoring in Accounting) from Melbourne University.

Mark is also a registered tax agent, a CPA Australia public practitioner and has also been admitted to practice as a solicitor in Victoria.

He is also a former recipient of the Henry Fox award for outstanding contribution to public practice in Victoria awarded by CPA Australia, and is a regular speaker and author on tax matters including for CPA Australia and the Tax Institute.

Mark is also the former Co-Chair of the ATO’s Tax Profession Digital Implementation Group and is a current member of the ATO’s FBT Stakeholder Group which is the peak consultative body on fringe benefits tax and related salary packaging issues.
