Overview

Stephen is a former Senior Associate at Ashurst, specialising in regulatory and white-collar litigation and investigations. Prior to joining Ashurst, Stephen worked at other major law firms in Australia and the United States. In New York, Stephen worked at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, where his practice focused on foreign corruption, bribery, anti-money laundering and economic sanctions cases. Stephen also argued a criminal appeal before the Full Bench of the Appellate Court of the First Department of New York.

Stephen holds law degrees from Sydney University and Columbia University in New York and is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of NSW, Federal Court of Australia, High Court of Australia and in the State and Federal courts of New York.

Stephen is currently a Teaching Fellow at the University of New South Wales, where he teaches “Corporate Misconduct and White Collar Crime”. Whilst at Columbia University, Stephen was the Research Assistant to Professor John C Coffee Jnr, conducting research in the areas of white-collar and regulatory law. In 2019, Stephen was appointed to the Advisory Committee of the Australian Law Reform Commission’s review into Australia’s corporate criminal responsibility regime.

Stephen was formerly the Tipstaff to the Honourable Ian G Harrison of the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
