Overview

Tim Neilson is a former director and former special counsel of Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills in Melbourne. Tim primarily practices in the area of income tax, including capital gains tax, but also in more recent times GST.

Tim has advised private sector and government clients, both Australian and international, in relation to a diverse range of transactions, including takeovers, debt and equity raisings, restructurings and infrastructure projects. Transactions in which he has been involved include the East/West Link road project and Macquarie Group's cross-border acquisition of SkyFin.

Tim has an Honours Degree in Law from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Laws Degree from the University of London. He is a member of revenue law-related committees of the Law Council of Australia and the Taxation Institute of Australia, and a member of the Advisory Board for the Monash University Journal of Australian Taxation. He has published frequently in professional journals and spoken at professional organisation conferences and seminars and has guest lectured at the University of Melbourne as part of its Melbourne Law Masters program.
