Toby Thompson is a Senior Associate with Griffith Hack, where he supports local and overseas clients working in the areas of pharmaceuticals, animal healthcare, agribusiness, industrial organic chemistry, polymers, materials, food and beverage technology, and consumer health products. He is experienced in many aspects of patent work, including drafting patent applications, patent prosecution strategy and portfolio management. Toby’s practice also involves conducting clearance searches, providing FTO advice and invalidity opinions, conducting oppositions and providing litigation support, and he has expertise in patent term extensions and supplementary protection certificates (SPCs). Toby has 12 years’ experience in patents, and he worked as a European attorney before moving to Australia and requalifying as an AU/NZ patent attorney. Prior to moving into the field of intellectual property, he spent five years carrying out medicinal chemistry research for a multinational pharmaceutical company, playing a key role in identifying two candidate drugs, and he is an inventor on several patent families. Toby was recognised as a Managing IP Rising Star in 2019.
