Meet the next generation of law students

Students from this year's JD class come from diverse professional and educational backgrounds, from Melbourne, Australia and around the world. The Law School community is enhanced by their backgrounds and experience. With slightly more women (55 percent) than men, their ages range from early twenties to late forties.

JD orientation 2011 

Our 2011 students:

  • Studied at 40 different universities from across Australia and overseas, in 16 undergraduate areas and 22 postgraduate specialisations;
  • Are equipped with a range of skills and expertise with 26% having been engaged in the workforce or postgraduate study prior to commencing their JD degree;
  • Have a diverse range of cultural backgrounds, being born or originating from 22 different countries, including China, Canada, New Zealand, United States, Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Croatia, Egypt, India, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam and Zimbabwe; 
  • Speak a range of languages, with the most common after English being Cantonese, Mandarin, Greek, French, Japanese and Italian.
