Project Title

Evaluation of CIFF’s support to strategic litigation on climate in Europe

Project Summary

Strategic litigation and investor activism to advance outcomes on climate change policy is of relatively recent origin. In Europe, up to this point, climate change litigation has tended to have a narrow focus, with most cases concerned with implementation of the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) or the rights of protestors. Client Earth’s work, supported by the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), seeks to pioneer similar approaches to those used in the United States and Australia in the European context to stop coal emissions, improve air quality, and reduce the carbon footprint of corporations. This project will generate an evidence base for the impact of strategic litigation and investor activism in the climate context.
