International visitors
Visa Requirements for International Visitors
International visitors are required to obtain a Temporary Activity visa (subclass 408) to participate in the Visiting Scholar Program. Please be aware that current processing times can be up to five months or longer, so early planning is essential. All international visits should therefore be planned at least 12 months in advance.
A Visitor visa (subclass 600) or eVisitor (subclass 651) is not suitable for participation in this program.
Visits of up to 3 months
For visits of three months or less, visiting scholars are responsible for securing a visa that permits all planned program activities while in Australia. Processing times can vary and may take several months, so applicants should submit their Visiting Scholar application as early as possible.
Visits longer than 3 months
For visits exceeding three months, the visa application process will be managed through Visa Lawyers Australia (VLA), who will advise on the appropriate visa type. All visa application charges and VLA fees must be covered by the applicant, unless compelling reasons for an exemption are provided. Such requests will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
