Celebrating Asian Australian Lawyers: From William Ah Ket to Today

asian aust lawyers

Asian Australians have played a vital role in the legal profession since the late 1800s, starting with the first barrister of Chinese origin to join the independent bar in Victoria, William Ah Ket.

This panel discussed the role of Asian Australians in the legal profession in the past and today, including the challenges faced by Asian Australian lawyers.  It also discussed the importance of cultural diversity in the workplace and within the community, particularly during a time when racism has become more prominent since COVID-19.

A recording of the panel discussion is available to watch here:

The Book Launch was hosted by the Global Economic Law Network, the Centre for Corporate Law, the Asian Law Centre and the Transactional Law Group at Melbourne Law School.
