Tackling Insecure Work: Assessing the Albanese Government's Reform Agenda (May 2023)

Webinar presented by:
Professor Andrew Stewart (John Bray Professor of Law at the University of Adelaide)

Monday 8 May 2023

About the event

The Albanese Government was elected in May 2022 on an IR platform that prioritised the need to ‘deliver more secure jobs’. Its first year in office has been one of great activity on the legislative front, including new rules from December 2023 that will limit the use not just of fixed term employment contracts, but many task or project-based contracts as well. But most of the bigger reforms in this area are yet to come, most notably on casual employment, labour hire, and ‘employee-like’ forms of work. In this webinar Professor Andrew Stewart laid out the choices and challenges for the government as it seeks to deliver on its election commitment, and identified what may be missing from the current reform agenda.
