Dr Tim Mann

Dr Tim Mann is currently on leave from the Indonesia at Melbourne blog, where he was founding editor.

Tim completed his PhD at Melbourne Law School in 2022, focusing on the role of activist lawyers in Indonesia after 1998. His research interests are in law and society, legal mobilisation, human rights, legal aid, civil society, and democratisation. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies (NIAS) at the University of Copenhagen in 2023, and previously served as Associate Director of the Centre for Indonesian Law, Islam and Society (CILIS) at Melbourne Law School. His book, Defending Legal Freedoms in Indonesia: The Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation and Cause Lawyering in an Age of Democratic Decline, was published by Routledge in 2024.
