'The Impact of Climate Mitigation on Indigenous and Forest Communities: International, National and Local Law Perspectives on REDD+'

The Centre for Resource, Energy and Environmental Law (CREEL) was delighted to host the launch of this new book with commentary by Professor Philippe Sands QC. This book analyses the international legal framework for valuing the carbon stored in forests, known as 'Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation' (REDD+), which is established by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement.

The authors show how REDD+ will impact the indigenous and local communities who inhabit, use or claim rights to forested lands, and seek to provide a systemic account of the relevant laws governing forest carbon sequestration and their interaction.
