Climate Fresk

The Center for Resources, Energy and Environmental Law (CREEL) is hosting a series of ‘Climate Fresk’ workshops at the Law School, aiming to help participants explore the science of climate change.

Why a Climate Fresk?

Why a Climate Fresk?

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. We need brave decision making that reflects the urgency and magnitude of the challenge. The trouble is, climate science is not the easiest thing to engage with.

The Climate Fresk aims to end that and make learning about climate change accessible to everyone.

What is it?

The Climate Fresk is a 3-hour workshop designed to help participants explore the science of climate change, the impacts it is creating now and in the future, and what we can do about it.

Developed in 2015, the workshop is grounded in the science from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) – the internationally accepted authority on climate change.’

How does it work?

The 3-hour workshop built around a 42 cards game:

  • Teams of 6-8 participants work together to find the cause-effect relationships between the different components of climate change
  • Over 5 rounds, the 42 cards are arranged to create ‘The Fresk’ – a visual system view of climate change
  • To help solidify learnings, participants then work through a creative phase, a reflective phase, and finally, discuss potential solutions
