2022 - Environmental Law Doctoral Researchers' Workshop

Melbourne Law School’s Centre for Resources, Energy and Environmental Law and UNSW Sydney’s Faculty of Law & Justice co-hosted the Environmental Law Doctoral Researchers’ Workshop, online on Tuesday 5 July and Wednesday 6 July 2022.

The Workshop intended to provide an opportunity for PhD researchers in environmental law to share their research in a relatively informal and supportive context, get feedback on their work from peers, and build connections with other emerging researchers in the field. We wanted to facilitate an open, constructive environment for doctoral researchers to deepen their knowledge, practice their presentation and critical feedback skills, and participate in a research community that will support them throughout and after their PhD studies.

Call for Papers

Melbourne Law School’s Centre for Resources, Energy and Environmental Law (CREEL) and UNSW Sydney’s Faculty of Law & Justice are delighted to invite abstracts for papers to be presented virtually at the Environmental Law Doctoral Researchers’ Workshop 2022.

This Workshop, which will be held over two days, on Tuesday 5 July and Wednesday 6 July 2022, will bring together doctoral researchers in the field of environmental law from Australia and New Zealand to present their research and receive detailed and rigorous feedback from their peers. Given that Covid-19 restrictions have reduced the opportunities for doctoral researchers to connect and share research, the objective of this workshop is to build a community of practice where doctoral researchers can test their ideas in a supportive and stimulating environment. The Workshop will allow participants to present in a traditional seminar-style and more interactive and dialogic formats.

Interested doctoral researchers should complete the expression of interest form and send it to envirolaw.docworkshop@gmail.com no later than 6pm AEST on 13 May 2022.

Please include “Environmental Law Workshop for Doctoral Researchers 2022” in the subject line. Notification of acceptance will be provided by 27 May 2022.

For any further information, please send any inquiries to: envirolaw.docworkshop@gmail.com.
We look forward to welcoming you to the second Environmental Law Workshop for Doctoral Researchers 2022!

2021

The first  Environmental Law Doctoral Researcher's Workshop was held online on Tuesday 6  July and Wednesday 7 July 2021.

Over the course of the workshop, the workshop heard from 24 PhD candidates discussing their research in environmental law. Workshop participants came from universities in Australia, Brazil, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom. We also had the opportunity to hear from and engage with four established environmental law scholars at different stages of their careers, about skills that are central to their craft: publishing widely and in different formats; and remaining optimistic and focussed notwithstanding the pressing environmental challenges we face.

This inaugural workshop was organised by Ashleigh Best, University of Melbourne; Caterina Guidi and Alice Bleby, University of New South Wales.
