Melbourne Regulation and Design Network
The Melbourne Regulation and Design Network draws together leading experts in regulation, and aims for excellence in research, learning and engagement to help meet the most important challenges faced by contemporary regulators.
Regulators currently face many challenges, ranging from an array of data-driven technologies to climate change and globalisation. It is an opportune time for innovative thinking and action on regulatory design. The Regulation and Design program explores innovation in the methods, tools and enforcement of regulation, focusing on how regulators can approach both the use of emerging technology, as well as their regulation, and considers the appropriateness of different regulatory tools, such as prescriptive versus outcome-based regulation, in new and changing contexts.
Objectives
Objectives of the network will include:
- Connect researchers, educators and professional regulators through a network that drives curiosity and challenging conversations around regulatory design and practice.
- Through independent research into the design and implementation of regulation, develop knowledge and understanding of innovations in practice and how regulators can respond to changes driven by emerging technologies and challenges resulting from complex social and economic dynamics.
- Undertake and promote research-led teaching that helps build capability and strengthen the regulatory profession.
- Engage closely with government and industry to translate research, promote new and innovative thinking and contribute positively to the design and practice of regulation.
