Alumni recognised in Queen's Birthday Honours list 2021
Melbourne Law School congratulates a number of our alumni who were recently recognised in the 2021 Queen's Birthday Honours list. The awards are a testament to the contributions and outstanding commitment made by MLS alumni to the Australian community.
- Professor Philip G Alston AO: made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to the law, particularly in the area of international human rights, and to legal education
- Mr Adrian R Bartak OAM: awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to music
- Mrs Sarnia A Birch OAM: awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to veterans and their families
- Ms Peta-Louise M Credlin AO: made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to parliament and politics, to policy development, and to the executive function of government
- Professor John C Daley AM: made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to public policy development, and to the community
- Group Captain Edward A Eather AM: made a Member in the Military Division of the Order of Australia for exceptional performance of duty to the Australian Defence Force in legal services
- Ms Erika E Feller AO: made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to the international community, to the recognition and protection of human rights, and to refugee law
- Ms Abigail M Forsyth OAM: awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to sustainable design
- Professor Ian R L Freckelton AO QC: made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to the law, and to the legal profession, across fields including health, medicine and technology
- Mr Andrew F Guy OAM: awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the community through a range of organisations
- Mr John R Harry OAM: awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the community, to rowing, and to the legal profession
- Ms Rachel J Jolly PSM: awarded a Public Service Medal for outstanding public service through innovative policy development and implementation supporting Pacific Islander workers during the COVID-19 pandemic
- Brigadier Douglas W Laidlaw AM CSC: made a Member in the Military Division of the Order of Australia for exceptional service as the Commander 4th Brigade and Commander Joint Task Force 646 during Operation BUSHFIRE ASSIST 2019-2020
- Mr Peter G McMullin AM: made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to business, to the law, and to the community
- Mr David S Niven OAM: awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the law, and to consumer affairs
- Mr David H Shaw OAM: awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the community health, and to Australian rules football
- Professor Melissa C Southey OAM: awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to epidemiology and precision medicine
- Mr Michael J Sweeney OAM: awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the community, and to the law
- Professor Anne F Twomey AO: made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to the law, to legal education, and to public education on constitutional matters
- Mr Barry J Watchorn AM: made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the superannuation sector through a range of roles
- Mrs Susan D Woodward AM: made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the not-for-profit sector, to fundraising, and to the law
