...what about the Wellness of the law industry and its people?
How do you think the wellness of the law sector and the mental health of its professionals has been since COVID-19?
The Wellness for Law Forum on February 15 and 16 will gather academia, practising lawyers and students for a two-day conversation about the state of the law sector in Australia, hosted by Melbourne Law School and Monash University Faculty of Law.
In 2009, the landmark report Courting the Blues: Attitudes towards depression in law students and legal practitioners was published by the Brain & Mind Research Institute. This report confirmed that Australian law students and legal professionals shared similar mental health and wellness issues to their equivalents internationally.
Since the last in-person Forum in 2019, we have endured the myriad uncertainties wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on both the teaching and practice of law.
As we grapple with the lasting impact of an event that has re-shaped the world, it remains critical to reflect with on what we have achieved over the last 15 years and where we are going now -
International keynote speakers include Professor Caroline Strevens from the University of Portsmouth, Professor Nathalie Cadieux from the University of Sherbrooke and Dr Emma J. Jonesfrom University of Sheffield, as well the Hon. Justice Peter Gray (Supreme Court of Victoria), His Honour Judge Frank Gucciardo (County Court of Victoria, Australia), The Hon. Andrea Coote (Former Member of Victorian Parliament, Australia).
