A meeting of like minds will propel a call for just, safe and equitable transformative climate action at Melbourne Climate Futures’ upcoming 2023 Climate Futures Summit on October 10.
Melbourne Climate Futures, led by Melbourne Law School’s Professor Jacqueline Peel, will convene more than 20 speakers from government, industry and research to share and develop solutions for transition to a net zero energy system, society and economy.
The research initiative will host five expert panels who will share thoughts and solutions across five pressing topics including biodiversity, oceans and climate; paying for the climate crisis; the human cost of a warming world; envisioning Australia and the region’s energy future; and leadership, government and climate governance.
Leading speakers include Lord Mayor of Melbourne Sally Capp, entrepreneur and activist Alan Schwartz, Professor and Director of Peter McCullum Centre on Statelessness Michelle Foster and Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science David Karoly, with renowned science communicator Jen Martin acting as master of ceremonies.
Professor Peel said the summit was a way to bring together leaders in their fields to ensure hard discussions help progress net-zero transitions.
“The Climate Futures Summit is our way of bringing University researchers together with our community, governments and industry so that we can have the conversations we need to accelerate our transition to a safe, equitable, healthy net zero society and economy, and transform our future,” said Professor Peel, Professor of Law and Director of Melbourne Climate Futures.
In-person tickets to the summit are sold out, however registration for online attendance is still available. Registration prior to September 29 is essential.
Registration, the day’s program and a guide to the Summit’s panel speakers can be found at the Climate Futures Summit website.
