Alumnus Hugh de Krester appointed Australian Human Rights Commission president.
Hugh de Krester, alumnus and former member of the Advisory Council of Melbourne Law School, has been appointed head of Australian Human Rights Commission.

Mr de Krester is Chief Executive Officer of Yoorrook Justice Commission, the formal truth-telling body exploring First Nations injustices, and was previously Executive Director of Human Rights Law Centre, Executive Officer of Victorian Federation of Community Legal Centres, a Victorian Law Reform Commission commissioner and Director of the Sentencing Advisory Council.
Attorney-General, the Hon Mark Dreyfus KC said he was 'delighted' to announce the appointment after an open-merit selection process.
“On behalf of Commissioners and staff, I am delighted to welcome Mr de Kretser to the Commission. For over twenty years he has been a dedicated and effective advocate for positive change for people and communities whose human rights are at risk,” said outgoing President, Emeritus Professor Croucher," he said.
He will commence his five-year appointment on July 30, succeeding Emeritus Professor Rosalind Croucher AM.
Mr de Krester graduated from University of Melbourne (BA/LLB) in 1997.
