Judge Charlesworth re-elected to International Court of Justice
Melbourne Law School Professor, Hon. Judge Hilary Charlesworth has won re-election to the International Court of Justice at the United Nations.

Judge Charlesworth was first elected to the Court in 2021- the first Australian woman elected to the International Court of Justice.
A release from the office of the Australian Attorney-General noted Judge Charlesworth would continue to 'draw on her exceptional expertise' to pursue the Court's 'mission to support the peaceful resolution of disputes between States'.
Judge Charlesworth is a Harrison Moore Professor of Law and a Melbourne Laureate Professor at Melbourne Law School whose research has included a focus on the international legal-system structure, peace building, human rights law and international humanitarian law, international legal theory, particularly feminist approaches to international law.
She has also held visiting professorships at Harvard Law School, New York University Global Law School, UCLA, Paris 1 and the London School of Economics.
Dean of Melbourne Law School, Professor Matthew Harding said: "Judge Charlesworth's standing as one of the world's most prominent jurists is a testament to her expertise and commitment to the advancement of international law."
"I wish her well for this next term at the Court and I know that her colleagues and students at the Melbourne Law School take great pride in her appointment," he said.
Judge Charlesworth has also served as barrister and solicitor of the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of Victoria since 1981.
