Melbourne Law School was proud to be the host  faculty for a recent special event celebrating the 2021/22 winner of the Sydney Peace Prize, the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

Professor Megan Davis delivered the keynote address at the Melbourne Town Hall when she accepted the Sydney Peace Prize for the Uluru Statement from the Heart, on behalf of Pat Anderson AO, Noel Pearson and herself.

“The Constitution is meant to change. It is built to change. By us... the Australian people. The Uluru Statement from the Heart is an invitation, a gift to the Australian people,” Professor Davis told the packed audience.

“We seek constitutional reforms to empower our people and take a rightful place in our own country. When we have power over our destiny our children will flourish. They will walk in two worlds and their culture will be a gift to their country.”

After her speech - which received a standing ovation - Professor Davis took part in a Q & A with Ms Anderson and Jon Faine AM, former ABC presenter and Vice Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Melbourne. See the speech and Q & A in full below.
