Restructuring and Insolvency Academic Forum (RIAF) 2026
The Asian Law Centre-supported RIAF 2026 forum in Bangkok brought global experts together to debate regional insolvency and restructuring trends, featuring presentations on digital assets and Indian bankruptcy law.
The Restructuring and Insolvency Academic Forum (RIAF) 2026 was held on 18-19 June 2026 in Bangkok, at Thammasat University.
Professor Andrew Godwin (Associate Director (Asian Commercial Law), Asian Law Centre) presented a paper on “Insolvency Law and Digital Assets – The Scorecard from Australia”. He also chaired a practitioners’ panel exploring the “Intersection of Insolvency and Arbitration”, which featured The Honourable Simon Gardiner (Former Judge, Supreme Court of Victoria). Debaranjan Goswami, a graduate researcher associated with the Asian Law Centre, presented a paper on “Transaction Avoidance, Wrongful & Fraudulent Trading Provisions Under the Indian Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016: Pitfalls and the Way Forward”.

The academic forum brought together leading scholars, judges, practitioners, and researchers from across the Asia-Pacific and beyond, ensuring lively debates and critical reflection on key issues in insolvency and restructuring. Sessions explored themes such as the regulation of digital assets and new technologies during insolvency, corporate rescue and restructuring frameworks, cross-border insolvency and regional cooperation, the design of effective creditor and debtor protections and the impact of insolvency regimes on society. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on law reform trends, comparative jurisprudence, and emerging issues in Asia-Pacific corporate insolvency regimes.
The RIAF was co-hosted by the Centre for Asian Legal Studies, National University of Singapore, Thammasat University Faculty of Law, INSOL International and INSOL International (Asia Hub). RIAF 2026 was proudly supported by the Asian Law Centre at Melbourne Law School.
