Professors Andrew D Mitchell, Bruce Oswald CSC and Tania Voon have been running this subject annually together since 2007, and this year another brilliant group of 25 Melbourne law students are in Geneva engaging with a range of organisations and people across the spectrum of public international law.

With one week of the two-week elective complete, the students have already participated in frank discussions with experts at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the World Trade Organization, the Advisory Centre on WTO Law, Sidley Austin LLP, the World Intellectual Property Organization, and the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue.

The class has also met with representatives of Geneva Call, the Convention Against Torture Initiative, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the European Mission to the WTO, and the International Labour Organization.

The class had a little time to relax during the week, taking in the scenery at a picnic by the lake, a dinner at a classic Geneva establishment, and a hike up Mont Salève in France. Next week the intensive seminars continue.
