Professor Carolyn Evans appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Melbourne Law School Dean Professor Carolyn Evans has been appointed University of Melbourne Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Provost with responsibility for graduate education.

University of Melbourne Provost Margaret Sheil said Professor Evans had done an an outstanding job leading the Melbourne Law School over the past six years, ensuring the school has a successful and viable graduate model for Law education.

“Professor Evans has supported and recruited an amazing group of scholars such that the reputation and research outcomes have gone from strength to strength,” Professor Sheil said.

The position of the Melbourne Law School amongst the world's best law schools is now unequivocal. In the past year Carolyn has taken on additional responsibilities as Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Advancement and was, amongst other achievements, a critical member of the team that secured the transformative gift to establish the Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity program.

“She will commence in the new role on 24 July, joining the team that includes Professor Richard James, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Provost with responsibility for undergraduate education and academic matters, and Professor Gregor Kennedy, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning).

“At such a critical time I am pleased we will have such a strong team to address the challenges and opportunities for the Melbourne Model.

Professor Evans said it had been an extraordinary honour to be Dean of Melbourne Law School and to work with such exceptional colleagues, students and alumni.

“I am delighted, however, to take on the challenges of the new role,” Professor Evans said.

“This new role signals the value that Melbourne places on graduate study and a distinctive, internationally recognised form of university education. I look forward to working with graduate schools and students to ensure that the graduate student experience is of the highest quality at Melbourne.”
