A Call For Action: Reckoning and Reimagining Communiqué
Truth-telling, accountability, and structural reform are not optional.
In August, the Indigenous Law and Justice Hub, together with an esteemed group of conveners, welcomed 75 Indigenous legal academics to a two-day workshop focused on the future of Indigenous legal education.
The gathering offered a compelling assessment of the current state of legal education in Australia, enriched by international comparisons and collaborative sessions exploring how Indigenous legal education can and should evolve in the years ahead.
Drawing on the discussions, insights, and calls to action that emerged from the workshop, a communiqué has been developed to capture the collective vision and recommended steps forward.
Reckoning and Reimagining Webpage is Now Live
The workshop conveners behind the Reckoning & Reimagining event are proud to announce the launch of a new webpage that brings together all post-workshop materials.
The platform serves as a public archive of the landmark gathering, which convened leaders, advocates, practitioners, and community voices committed to charting a transformative path forward.
Hosted in August this year, the Reckoning & Reimagining event fostered collaborative dialogue on the current state of Indigenous legal education in Australia, international comparisons, and the future of collective action.
With the release of the new website, participants and interested parties can now explore the full suite of materials generated during the convening.
The website features:
- Official Communiqué – A shared statement emerging from the workshop’s deliberations, outlining the key principles, commitments, and calls to action endorsed by participants. There is also a form inviting individuals, organisations, and partners to register their endorsement and join the growing coalition committed to advancing the communiqué’s vision.
- Full Workshop Report – A detailed synthesis capturing discussions, major themes, recommendations, and next steps identified throughout the multi-day engagement.
