Commemorating National Sorry Day

Today on 26 May, the Indigenous Law and Justice Hub marks National Sorry Day.

National Sorry Day is a day of remembrance and healing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families to be assimilated into white families, under what is known as the Stolen Generation. It is a day of commemoration that affects Indigenous people who share memories of generational trauma and painful lived experiences that resulted in loss of culture and identity. The practice of removing Indigenous children from their homes continues to happen under today's white settler law, a subject that cannot be ignored or dismissed
