The First Peoples Assembly of Victoria Elections Are Underway - It’s Important You Have Your Say

Assembly Elections - your vote matters

Why Treaty Matters

Treaty is an important milestone for the self-determination of First Peoples of Victoria. Treaty will allow for better social and economic outcomes for our First Peoples because decisions for community will be made by community and local knowledge.

The Election

The First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria is responsible for Treaty negotiations with the State. The election for the next term of Assembly members is currently underway.

The next term of Assembly members will be responsible for representing their communities’ voices and delivering the outcomes negotiated through Treaty over the next 4 years.

How to Get Involved

Nominate as a Candidate

Traditional Owners of Country in Victoria are invited to nominate as an Assembly Member candidate by the 2nd of March. You can nominate as a candidate by clicking here.

Enrol to Vote

It is important that you have your say in who takes on this responsibility.

You can enrol with the Assembly if you are:

  • A Traditional Owner of Country in Victoria (living either within Victoria or interstate), or
  • if you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who has lived in Victoria for at least three of the past five years and are above the age of 16.

If you are eligible, you can enrol to vote now by visiting the official Treaty elections website. Voting will open between the 21st of March to the 12th of April.

Your voice matters, make sure it’s heard.
