Application process

Check your eligibility

Ensure you are eligible to complete a period of research at the University of Melbourne. Eligibility requirements are available online.

You must meet the University’s English Language Requirements for Graduate Research.

Find a Supervisor

Before you can apply, you will need to obtain written support from an MLS academic who is available to supervise your research as well as provide guidance for the duration of your visit.

If you do not have existing contacts at MLS, you can use Find an Expert to reach out to potential supervisors.

The Law School is unable to arrange supervision for prospective visitors. Applications will not be considered without supervisor endorsement. Please note that many supervisors are on leave and unable to host visits from mid-December through to the end of January.

Submit an application

Ensure you have all required documentation, and follow the instructions online to apply.

We recommend you apply at least 6 months before you plan to visit Melbourne Law School. This ensures you have enough time to organise a visa and accommodation.

Please note that applying does not guarantee that a visit will be approved. All applications are reviewed carefully by Melbourne Law School and require final approval by the Director of Graduate Research.
