Guta Goldstein

Guta Goldstein came to Australia in 1949, a 19 year old Jewish survivor of the Holocaust. Born in Lodz in 1930, she endured the war in ghettos and camps in Poland, before being liberated while working as a slave labourer in a factory in Germany. Guta travelled with her remaining family members to Italy and then to Australia, where she has lived ever since.

She explained that “we were just homeless, this is what it was, but stateless is more than homeless because you don’t have not only a home, but not where the home is going to be, so you didn’t have a home either. You didn’t have a home, and you didn’t have a country, and you didn’t know where you were going, and you didn’t, you couldn’t work.”
