Beginning in 2016, IILAH convenes an interdisciplinary masterclass series, in conjunction with colleagues across the University of Melbourne within the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies, the School of Culture and Communication, the School of Social and Political Sciences, and the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions. The objective of the series is to cultivate cutting-edge scholarly dialogue across disciplinary lines on questions of the international, the global, and the universal. Each masterclass will be hosted within a different discipline, and will provide participants with an opportunity for rigorous engagement with a leading scholar on the implications of their work for contemporary concepts of the international as a legal, social, political, cultural and material practice. The masterclass series reiterates IILAH’s commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship, with a particular focus on peoples and perspectives marginalised by the historical commitments of international law.
